Mtskheta was the capital of the ancient kingdom of Kartli for centuries and is still the spiritual heart of Georgia. Its great churches are a UNESCO World Heritage site, and they are only twenty minutes from Tbilisi.

We start on the hilltop at Jvari Monastery, where the Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers meet far below, then drive down into town for Svetitskhoveli Cathedral and a walk through the old streets.
